Mathathon 2013 Info

Welcome to Ventana Vista's Mathathon! Our goal is to have students practice math while raising money for our school. In the 2010, 2011 & 2012 Mathathons, over $18,000 was raised each year!! This is Ventana Vista's largest fundraiser. The money raised last year has helped pay for new shade structures, field trips, grants for classrooms, a new sound system for the music department, and has contributed to school-wide events. Without the Mathathon, none of this would be possible. Thanks to all the hard work of the students and parents, at $500, Ventana Vista has the highest teacher classroom funds in the district.

Here is how the Mathathon works (packets were sent home second week in February):

  1. Practice the sample math problems. The questions on the Mathathon test will be similar. There will be 25 questions. The more practice the better!
  2. Use the pledge form to gather pledges from family and friends. They can pledge can be an amount for each correct answer on the Mathathon test or pledge a flat amount.
** Safety is our number one concern. Door-to-door solicitation is prohibited. Instead, ask family, friends, and co-workers to support students' efforts. Extra forms are located in the office.
  3. By Wednesday, February 27th, return pledge forms along with the envelope to your math teacher. Please do not turn in any money you have collected at this time. The totals will be calculated and returned to you after the test. Each student who collects at least 1 pledge will be entered in the drawing for the "Minute To Win It Challenge". Turn in pledge forms by this date to be entered in the "Minute To Win It Challenge"!
  4. Tuesday, March 5th is Mathathon Test Day!! Every student in the school will take the test in math class. Good luck!
  5. On Friday, March 8th, the pledge packets (with calculated pledge amounts) and the corrected Mathathon test will be returned and sent home.
  6. March 9th-March 19th - Collect pledge money from donors.
  7. By Wednesday, March 20st, turn in pledge form and money to the classroom. Money turned in after this date will not be included in the calculation of prizes!!

Did someone mention PRIZES??? Here they are:

  • Each classroom with 100% participation will be awarded $50 to spend.
  • The math class that collects the most money in pledges will be awarded $100 to spend AND each class that collects $1,500 or more will be awarded $100 to spend.
  • $12,000 in pledges will earn each classroom their own Eegee's Party!
  • If Ventana Vista collects $10,000 in pledges, the top 10 collectors and 2 students from the drawing will participate in the "Minute To Win It Challenge" against Mrs. Boling and other "mystery" staff members. Two names will be drawn at the last assembly of the year. Names for the drawing will be taken from the pledge forms that are turned in by February 27th.
  • Grand Prizes: The top 3 students who collect the most $$$ in pledges will win the following Target Gift Card prizes... 1st place: $150, 2nd place: $100, and 3rd place: $50!!

Thank you, in advance, for supporting our school in the Mathathon. All of the funds raised will benefit the students at Ventana Vista. Keep it fun! No worries! No stress! No grades! Remember, the Mathathon is supposed to be a FUNdraiser! If you have any questions, please contact:
